Last week I was able to finish up a crocheted afghan that was started late April 2014. When weather started warming up and it was time to tend to the yard and attending to the flower beds time just slipped.
Last week I was able to finish the afghan that I designed for my middle son. The Afghan fits a twin sized bed. To create the afghan I used red, white, blue and black yarn's by Red Heart, Fiesta, a size N.
A simple and fund project for everyone. A few months ago I had changed the vinyl shelf lining in a few cabinets. When finished and in the process of rolling it up I keep thinking there has to be a project in this. I had set the vinyl lining aside and during my trying days of fighting the Flu type cold a idea popped into my Vintage Brain cells.
Vinyl Hand drawn placemats, yes why not. So I cut the vinyl shelf lining into 18 inch long pieces making each one 15" by 18", rounded the corners of each placemat, clean each mat with rubbing alcohol, wiped the dry, then I drew a simple outline design using Sharpie permanent fine point tip markers.
After finishing the project I thought how much fun it would be to share this with all of you. This would be a fun project for holiday placemats, even have the children join in and make their very own. Say why not have the kids make one for Santa's cookies and milk.
Hope you enjoy this fun and simple placemat project.
Happy Holidays.
Hugs,
Over the years I have been experimenting with different types of yarns and other fiber products. Here are the latest results of dyeing off - white cotton chenille yarn. I am most happy with the latest outcome of the dyeing process and how beautifully it took the dye and punched needled.
Used one of my original bear patterns ( once again) and transferred it onto 100 percent cotton monks cloth. I think the photo's below will show what a awesome child's rug it made. This rug measure about 27 inches by 40 inches. I have also made some smaller rugs as well and all are wonderfully soft, as well as thick and fluffy. I might add washed up beautifully.
Enjoy and until then
Hi Dear Friends, First I am so very sorry once again to have been away from my blog I am embarrassed to no end. Big, big breath and taking the bull by the horn now that my home is livable after 1year and 5 months of work and more work. I did manage to make a few project then thing really need attending to. All is just about complete now that there is a storage building to store my stuff in and a little playhouse soon to be finished. One step at a time.
Here is a little project completed a little while back and though you all might enjoy see it.
A Sweet Little Birdie dish towel, machine embroidered cloth kind like an applique, more rustic. A sweet little crochet boarder to add a little more texture to the design. Enjoy
If the creek doesn't rise I will return with new project.
About a week or so ago I started a project using one of my pattern designs. Cut a fabric block 12" by 12" and transferred one of my design ( Angle Heart ) and used fabric paint to create this sweet little Angel Heart. Added strips of fabric to out side edge of the hand painted fabric block. Next was the fabric backing and a pillow form. Had fun creating this project. You too might enjoy making one for someone special.
After many years of saving scraps of fabric and not know why other then the fabric scraps were pretty and perhaps useful. Over the years the odds and ends of fabric piece have been tucked away in a box and then stored. This last passed year I have really tried hard to downsize my crafting and supplies. However, when I came across the forgotten box of odds and ends of pretty fabric pieces I could not toss it out. Why? Hmmm I guess it's because? Sighing who knows why. For about seven months or so it was put away once again.
One day while waiting in line at the grocery store there was a rack of magazines and noticed a quilting magazine. Picked one up and while thumbing thought it seen a beautiful Crazy Quilted bed cover and thought how fun. Purchased the magazine and that started the wheels turning. Here is the finished project made from the inspiration of the crazy quilt bed cover.
Lots of mistakes , hair pulling and ripping out and redoing. I learned a lot and now making other smaller project for the fabric pieces. I would love to add some embroidery to the table runner.
Hope everyone had a good weekend.
Sending hugs from my heart to all of you.
Still working on the Estate Sale but it is finally showing progress at long last. Gees nearly fifty years of stuff. Selling the weaving looms, knitting machines ( a Brothers computerized machine and the other is manual) Lot's of wool yarn, rug hooking stuff, punch needle supplies. Just so many years of crafting.
Now to the fun part I found time to work on a little mug rug project and did some machine stitching around the painted design. Made from muslin fabric and padded it with quilt batting and jean fabric. Really turned out very nice and the heat does not come through the little mug rug. Not a fancy project but it was fun and relaxing to make.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
During the time between post gathered up all my odds and ends of yarn and crocheted a Afghan using the wave stitch and crocheted a black row after each main row. What brought about using up the odds and ends of yarn was a very kind person I connected with on Facebook. Bonnie Jones posted a very beautiful Afghan she made from her left over yarns. After seeing how beautiful hers was and Bonnie encouraging me I managed to create this one. Thank you so much Bonnie for you kind help.
As you can see there is a quilted bear setting in the middle of the Afghan and she is wearing part of an old lace edging I found at a Jeannie Consignments. The tattered old bear is made from a very old quilt that was so worn and tattered. There were a few good spots and the only thing that kept going through my mind was make a bear. I love this little girl bear and she is a keeper.
Thank you so very much for visiting my littler spot on the web.
Always in kindness and warping it is Gods Blessing to all of you.
I have at long last sorted out most the boxes from the move into my Make Do country home on 3.50 acres of Gods country. Lots of work to do but I love what I have been blessed to own.
Started the process of trying to come up with an idea to render the problem of the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The kitchen is quite small and wall to wall Med. dark stained woo cabinets. The top of the cabinets are in wonderful condition, while the bottom ones are a total mess. I jump back and forth over color going from the old federal blue to a deep cranberry red, then I get to thinking may be a white because the kitchen is small. grrrrr. Anyway here is a photo of the kitchen cabinets. Any ideas would be very welcome.
Now you all know why I have been MIA. Hope to post more photo to share with all of you.
Once again I must apologize for MIA, I had to take some down time and have my eye surgery done. One of those things where you hold out until you must do it. The removal of the Cataract on the left eye is wonderful. However the right eye is not doing well at all as it is blurry and I have to relay on the left eye to see which makes it very hard as it is a lazy eye and need I say more. Ok fast forward to good things going on here at the new hang out. I am in the process of having my sons build me a storage shed which will clear out the garage and work room and this will allow me to get back to my love of crafting.
In the meantime you who love to quilt might enjoy this blog. Love this idea and want to start one for a Christmas gift. Have a magical day. Hugs, LenZie

Yoyo Pillow and Antique edging

About two month or more I received a wonderful gift in the mail from a very dear friend who lives in New York. She makes Yoyo's from odds and ends of fabric and I have admired the beautiful table cloth she made using the Yoyo's she makes. I had asked her how she made them and she like the wonderful person she is simple gave me the size of the circle and what I needed to do. Well time had passed and I never got around to making any and then one day a package showed up and when I opened it up out popped all this little Yoyo's, Yes! I was the proud owner of enough Yoyo's to design a project, needless to say I could not decided just what I wanted to do with them.
One day while looking at some of my old rug hooking magazine I cam across a penny rug design and fell in love with it and from that moment on I knew just what I was going to do with all the wonderful Yoyo's. I didn't get to make the same design but that's OK as the one I design is just so special and made a Pillow for my bed and now working on a dress runner to match, just might have enough to make a little Yoyo Mug Rug too.
Thank you Betty for all that you did for me as each time I look at the projects I made from the Yoyo's you sent me will always remind me of you.

The beautiful edging on the Yoyo pillow came from an Antique crochet book dating sometime around 1917. Must say it took me a little bit to figure out the design as they sure leave a lot out of there old written crochet instruction.
As soon as I get a few more of the Antique edgings rewritten will post a few for all of you to enjoy.
This it for now and may the wind always be at your back.

Last year I created this hot plate pad for a Forth of July BBQ and by the time I got it finished it was to late to share with all of you. Here is how I created it. I used scraps of fabric from other projects and used bottle caps. The first step is to wash and dry all the bottle caps, cut out a circle large enough to cover the bottle cap your using. The bottle caps I used measured about 1 1/4 inches across, the temple circle I created was 2 inches across. After I cut out all the fabric circle needed to cover the bottle caps for the hot plat pad use a running stitch about 1/8th to 1/4 inch from the out side edge of the circle and sew all the way around to the where you started,, lay the cap in the center of the circle and pull the thread to gather it up and around the bottle caps. Next I laid out the flag design, on wax paper and used fabric glue to tack them together. After the glue was dry use a heavy button thread to tack them all together to secure and keep them in place. The last thing I did was to remove the wax paper and cut cork paper ( the heavy kind used for scrap booking) and glued it to the back of the bottle caps. * be sure to let it cry before using.

There are lots of wonderful fabrics available and a person could make a whole set for a gift. Have fun and enjoy.

Have a grand weekend.

This last week took a little brake from crocheting to update my blog and came across a photo of a project I designed. After completing it tucked it away with plans to use it but then decided to send it to a friend to sell for me. Named it The Crow;s N Moon. The moon is made from all cotton muslin and tea dyed, the two crows are made from black all cotton fabric and lightly painted with black watered down acrylic paint, add a little tiny bruising of white paint, when it was almost dry did a little sanding. mounted it on old fence wood as shown in the photo. However if I were to make this project again I would use all cotton muslin for the entire project, paint the crows and then grungy up the who project.
Hope everyone had a delightful Mothers Day, my sons gave be huge pot of flowers amd I was blessed with a visit from my grand daughter who lives in Seattle, Washington, and my other Grand Daughter who live not far from me she brought over a beautiful card with a hand print of my GGS. The next day she brought over flowers and makings for root beer floats. It was a lot of fun and must admit it has been a very long time that we have had a root beer party. How cool is that for a Mothers Day celebration? Put happy smile across my heart forever.
Signing off for now and May the wind always be at your back.
here as I am in the process of buying a house to make a home. The Good Lord has truly blessed me as I had put in other offers and something always seem to happen to those offers. Have to admit I was beside myself that I simply gave up and gave it to the Lord and said if I am to have a home it is all up to God. Well with in couple of days I got a telephone call from my realtor and he told me he had a house he was listing and wanted me to look at and was sure it was one I would like. Long story short he was right and God blessed the offer and now I am waiting for all the legal paper work to be processed. I
was told it would take about six weeks.
So in the meantime I have been making my list of things that need to be done and that mean's finishing up a couple of UFO's (unfinished objects) . Here is one of the project finished. It is a simple crocheted scarf using the Lovers Knot. Also made a pair of wrist warmer cuffs to go along with it.
I used Simply Soft white yarn, crochet hook size H and 22 stitch across and worked the Lovers not until the scarf measure 72 inches long and added a 3 1/2 inch fringe. I have about four more project to go. Then it will be time to pack up the yarn and hooks for the new journey.
Once all the paperwork is finished I will post pictures along with the moving process.
some of my artwork and create a collage to make a computer print on fabric. This was quite the project and I quickly learned for my skill level that using fabric on freezer paper was not the way for me to go. I found a website that gave step by step instruction. However, I must have been doing something wrong as it jammed my printer several times.
Needless to say I decided to search Amazon for computer fabric paper and found it and at a very good price. Once the paper arrived I quickly read the instructions and put the paper into the computer and BINGO! it beautifully printed out the collage and so repeated the process and once again another great print on fabric.
The Mothers Day and Valentine pillow's turned out quite nice, Now for the finishing touch I added a crocheted edging and like most things I do created it with no pattern all from the heart and hands.
Hope you will give the computer fabric printing process a try as it is a very wonderful way to make gifts from the heart and create memories.
I just had a thought maybe a person could create a fabric card too.

Have fun creating and keep those hooks flying.
God Bless America
The other day I was in Wal-Mart and found a set of 3 kitchen towel in white and red. Now being my new kitchen theme will soon be in red, white and black I could not pass these towels up. When I got home and rested up decided to see just what I could add to them i.e a little painting, embroidery work, a penny rug design or yes a crocheted edging. There was plenty of red crochet thread left over from Christmas project so I added a simple crocheted edging by single crochet across the bottom and the adding the shell stitch. Also did one in white and another using red and white thread. Now I am on a roll once again. Here is a link to great tutorial for adding edgings to kitchen tea towels.
The blog has lots of how to photo fir this kind of project.
Another link for a different version to add edgings.

The crocheted edging on this small towel maked a wonderful guest towel set for the bathroom. I bought them from Wal Mart, in there kitchen section.

for under five dollars. Also bought several white face cloths and crocheted a simple edging around them to match the towel. You can find other kitchen towels to use for many different projects as well. A person might check out Targets and other like stores too.
Was also thinking how nice it would be to add a Penny Rug design using polyester and cotton blend fabric. Lots of things you can do with these little towel as a person could even make a toaster cover and yes add a chicken design etc. Looks like I need to get busy here with some of my ideas.
Keep busy and keep the hook flying.
Hugs, LenZie
P S don't for get to check out the book section for punch needle books, and more. Below is a really neat a easy to follow crochet book. Check out the details by click on the advertisement in the left hand column. Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day.
I have seen several Humming birds of late so guess the little one are looking for food and a place to nest. Time to refill and set out the feeders for Gods little critters.
To welcome in Spring I have been making dish towels and pillowcase sets, then crocheting edgings on them. This kitchen towel is handmade using 100 percent cotton fabric, hand hemmed, a little cross stitch was embroidery on each side of the towel and then the edging was crocheted right onto both ends. The Fantasy blue bird is one of my original design doodles.
Hope you enjoy my simple creations and will come back again. Please feel free to leave a comment it is appreciated.
God Bless You.
Theres are rainbows in your skys.
Crocheted Wool Felted Hat.
I
made this hat sometime ago and thought it would be perfect to share it with you
as a St. Patrick Day project.

Hook
size I, 100 percent all virgin wool yarn by Lions Brand, and a crocheted wool
felt hat pattern I found on the internet.

When
crocheting this hat it looked like it would never work out as it was extremely
large. I swear it just seemed to keep growing and
growing. Never the less I hung in there
and finished crocheting the hat.

Next I
placed the hat into an old pillowcase (my creative ideas as I had heard what a
mess felting can make of ones washing machine) and tied it shut so the loose fibers would not
collect in the tub of the washing machine.
The settings I used was hot water, a half tub of very hot water and put
it

through
several cycles to make sure the darn thing would shrink.

Next
was a really cold water rinsing. After
it was

rinsed
it was removed from the pillowcase and all the loose fibers were removed and
once again placed back into the pillowcase as before. Next it was placed in a very hot dryer set on
high heat with a few old terry towels for about half an hour. When the hat was at the stage where I
could remove it from the pillowcase and not be concerned about tons of loose
fiber collecting in the dry. It
sprinkled with

warm
water to dampen it and returned to the dryer to let it warm up a bit and still
be damp enough to shape.

I was
very pleased to see that huge hat felted and had reduced in size to fit a real
human head size.

Next I
blocked it using warm water and steam.

Would I
do this again?

it was a very interesting project the answer is

NO and
once is enough. lol, lol.
